Management Workshop:
The Aims and Responsibilities of Corporate Management
Corporate Management is the task of getting people in an organization or group to achieve the set goals by employing various methods. The task of a management team is endless, being vested with so many responsibilities starting from the recruitment and training of employees to monitoring the production processes to scrutinizing the final output, setting targets, quality standards etc.
The Corporate management team usually comprises the CEO-Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President of the company, the COO- Chief Operating Officer and the CFO- the Chief Financial Officer Etc of the concern. A full-fledged work force is recruited under each of these executives whose activities he will have to monitor. Mostly, the corporate management hierarchy is charted out for knowledge of the employees as well as company's clients.
Most modern company policies inculcate decentralized methods of decision making which helps in saving considerable amount of time. This method is practiced by vesting decision-making power with junior managers and supervisors at each level so that the employees can report directly to them. Such a procedure can also be viewed as a morale booster for the middle level team who can display their leadership qualities in managing his team.
The recruitment process itself is a complicated affair, since it's vital that people taken in match their job profile to the hilt. A CEO is the backbone of an enterprise, with a good knowledge of the company strengths and weaknesses and it's his job to induct the other members of the corporate management team. In some cases the owner or proprietor of the organization will take over the role of the CEO.
In order to ensure the achievement of set goals, it's important to foster and maintain certain qualities and programs within the worker's team. An important aspect is leadership which has to be exercised at all levels in order to extract the best from a work force. It can be done in different ways like simply directing his subordinates, convincing them through various selling techniques or actually demonstrating what is to be done and last but not the least encouraging workers to come up with ideas that can further accelerate achievement of company goals.
Motivation is a vital task to be performed by the corporate management team. Organizing workshops for training, celebrating major events and creating a cheerful work environment encourages the workforce to give their best. Employee incentive programs are also good stimulators for extracting higher output which results in increased sales and profits for the organization.
Introducing the six sigma methodology will help to reduce deviations from goals and reduce ambiguity among the work force regarding processes and goals. It will help in proper time management and will also help in cost cutting. A clear communication network should be built up in the organization so that all important messages and information are passed on at all levels. A good feedback system will also help in spotting weak areas and taking corrective action immediately.
A corporate management team that exhibits honesty, integrity and credibility will easily adapt to any changes in the business environment and can take the company to the realm of success.
