The Role of Training and Team Building in a Corporate Management Structure

A large Business organization is usually headed by a board of directors who are vested with the task of appointing personnel to top management positions or in other words recruiting the Corporate Management team. This team is normally composed of the CEO (Chief Executive Officer)- who is the controlling head of the firm, COO (Chief Operating Officer)- who has to be conversant with all the functions and processes carried out by the organization, the CFO(Chief Financial Officer)- who disperses and records all financial transactions taking place.

The corporation is further divided into various factions which fall under the jurisdiction of the above mentioned core team. However, entire responsibility for managing the lower factions are not to be centralized which would mean considerable delay in decision making and as a result loss of precious time. Thus a decentralized management structure bestowing decision making power on various departmental heads and supervisors is more feasible.

Decentralized management is not without its drawbacks. For e.g. if some of the decisions taken by the lower level managers goes wrong the top level will have to spend a lot of time rectifying it. In order to avoid such discrepancies, it would be wise to appoint people with relevant experience in handling such jobs.

Most corporations are now actively engaged in conducting training programs for its managers so that they are constantly updated about current developments in the industry and incorporate them in the organization as when needed. They are also taught 'people skills' so that their relationship with their subordinates also improves. They learn to use team building skills which foster loyalty and commitment among their group.

Most organizations have a fixed training schedule which requires managers so that a certain number of managers coming from various departments are required to attend. Such sessions help to endorse the company goals and objectives among the participants and also suggest appropriate steps to achieve them. The managers are also encouraged to participate in self improvement programs for their own good.

The company must plan in advance and budget such training programs so that they are carried out without any obstacles. Ideas can be obtained from the net or today there are many consultancies out there that are specialized in holding management seminars and workshops where they try to inculcate the latest in training and development methods. Asking some experienced people from HR, Finance and other major departments to speak about their modus operandi and also to give some pointers in employee management would be a good idea.

The six sigma concept is one that is followed by small to the biggest multinational organizations today. It helps the workforce perform their activities in a structured manner with very few variations from their plan. In case any inconsistency occurs, the reasons for it are determined with the aid of statistical and quantifiable data and rectifications suggested immediately so that such faults are not repeated. The six sigma approaches is one with lasting results and may be undertaken with a long term perspective in mind.

Thus a successful corporate management structure requires a unifies workforce that has to be fostered and maintained with the above mentioned pointers.
