Management Training:
Management Training - Why Another Crisis?
We keep moving from one management crisis to another simply because most of our organizations are immoral. We manage our organizations as if they pertained to a mechanical "dead" world. Most managers will proudly tell you that they manage resources: human, financial and material resources. This suggests that humans are resources like any others. More cynical managers will tell you that they manage "throwaway" resources. And they are right. Management and executives can throw away anything; they can get rid of anybody at any time and to the limit, they can keep all of the profits for themselves if they really want to. Today, most corporations are nothing but "things". They are "things" that anybody can create and destroy after making enough money and satisfying his own ego. What we call a corporation or moral person is most often a center of irresponsibility where the management leaders can take huge benefits whenever successful and run away without penalties if not successful.
We do not recognize yet that human organizations are complex living organisms just like ourselves. An organization which has such complex living organisms as cells - we humans - cannot be anything else but a complex living organism. And, the interrelated forces which animate an organization can only be as complex as the forces animating its own cells. Within an organization, the power of the invisible forces of minds interacting on each other several times per second is magnified by the number of people involved. These powerful ongoing interacting forces - information, perception, meaning, imagination, expectation, emotional feedback and adaptation - of the organization need to be managed properly.
What if we were treated as we treat our organizations? What if our cells and organs were competing with each other rather than cooperating? What if our different organs did not allow a free flow of the energy, information and materials that our body needs? What if we could not react quickly to an imminent risk? What if we could not promptly adapt to new situations? What if our Inner World could not prevent assaults from the Outer World? What if we could not detect injuries and start repairing our tissues by ourselves? You know the answers. We would not survive for very long under these conditions. And yet, this is exactly the kind of existence that we have created for our organizations. Wouldn't you agree that our organizations deserve much better life conditions than that?
Do not wait for the next management crisis. Start managing the Inner world - Interrelations, Internal cooperation, Networking, Mission, Culture, Creativity, Expectations, Risks and Changes - of your organization as a complex living organism right now. You will be surprised at the impacts on Governance, Ethics, Effectiveness, Efficiency, Economy and Sustained Development of your organization.
