Management Training:
Facts About Management Workshops

The word "management" may be traced back to the Latin "manus", which means "hand", and later on, to the Italian word "maneggiare" (i.e. "to handle"). It is, therefore, about handling all resources (be they human, natural, financial, technological) in order to attain certain established goals and objectives.

Management points to that particular human action aimed at producing useful and planned outcomes from a system, which may be private (i.e. profit-making), public or non-profit.

There are several functions through which management operates:

plan - organize the actions and activities that should take place along various time spans (short term, medium-term, long-term);

implement - optimally organize resources that underlie the accomplishments of plans;

staff - recruit the appropriate individuals to carry on the necessary tasks and jobs;

lead - decide what needs to be done in a particular situation;

monitor - measure progress against plans.

The development of information technology and that of management as a modern science have brought about the creation of specialized tools aimed at improving management work. Project management software provides instruments for planning, organizing and managing resources to achieve the estimated goals. They also provide controlling and evaluation functions.

Web- based project management systems may be accessed using a web browser. No additional software needs to be installed. The idea is to make project management easier. It has the advantage that it allows one to manage multiple projects and with project teams having different locations. Such tools are usually quite flexible, as a wide project typology is taken into account (projects with various sizes, types, one or more projects etc). Also, they are designed to support delivery to both private and public recipients.

Such online applications are 100% web-based. They are designed intuitively so that they can be easily tailored and deployed to any client environment. It is also possible to improve project communication and efficiency. The system allows for an efficient management of the project budget, by means of an accurate monitoring of costs and expenditures. It contains facilities (such as the online time sheet system) aimed at improving staff utilization rates. A proactive project management approach is encouraged by ensuring real time visibility of the key performance indicators of the project.
