Best Management Seminar Tricks
The School of Hard Knocks can be a good teacher. That's where we learn the 'tricks-of-the-trade' that help us to achieve more-and-more with less-and-less time and effort.
Management, too, has its tricks. Whether you're operating your own business, climbing the corporate ladder, enjoying the view from the top, or running that important organization called a home, there are management tricks to make life easier for you.
Successful managers possess the know-how that can leave others in awe, asking, 'How did you know that?' or 'Where did you learn that?'
So what are some examples of management tricks? Here are a selection of management tricks you can adapt and claim as your own. The source of these tricks is that school most of us have attended at one time or another. Perhaps you even attended the same school?
What color are your eyes?
Try this simple management trick to help you project a good impression whenever you meet someone for the first time...Take note of the color of the person's eyes as you shake hands. In this way, you'll gain that strong eye contact that's so important first up, and at the same time indicate that you're interested in the person and in what s/he has to say.
Handy speech-making management tricks
You can add a little color to the next presentation you make, even if things go wrong, as they sometimes do. Develop your speech-making skills by having a few clever lines ready to 'roll casually off the tongue', such as...
Opening lines:
'It's nice to see so many smiling faces- and it's good to see the rest of you, too...'
Small turnout:
'I didn't expect such a small audience. Now I know how SBS feels.'
Having arrived late:
'Sorry I'm late. (The organizer) gave me directions to get here today but obviously she's heard me speak before.
After a break:
'It's a pleasure to see that so many of you have come back voluntarily.'
A joke nobody laughs at:
'That joke was designed to get a quiet laugh - and it did.'
Question and answer:
'If anybody has a question, I've a few answers. With a little luck, maybe they'll match up.'
Catch that wave
A good night's sleep is essential if we are to perform well in the workplace. Ever tried reading yourself to sleep in bed? And does it not always work? The key is to catch the wave of sleepiness. As you read, you start to feel sleepy. It's then, when you feel the wave of sleepiness come, that you must go with it. If, however, you decide to keep on reading until, say, you finish the chapter, you may miss that wave and no longer feel sleepy. Catch the wave! When you feel sleepy, go to sleep!
If this sample of management tricks gets you thinking about others, let's hear them.
