Effective Meeting Skills

Even in this new world of email, instant messaging, cell phones, and Blackberries, there are still certain things that can’t be accomplished without face-to-face meetings. We don’t have to tell you how miserable it is to sit for two hours while people ramble and grumble and go over the same territory again and again. When it is all over, everyone is frustrated, confused and two hours further behind in getting their real work done! It doesn’t have to be that way. Our Effective Meeting Skills workshop will teach you how to conduct meetings that get more done in less time with better results.

Top 10 Ways for Life Skills Coaches to Stay Current in the Labor Market

1. Researching – Be curious. Have a look around to see where and how coaching is being delivered. Go to www.google.com and do a search for ‘Personal Coaching, Canada’ and discover that athletic coaches no longer corner the market.

2. Reading – Read newspaper and magazine articles and websites on coaching to discover the many areas that coaches are now working, such as sales and marketing, law, medicine, education, high tech, health care, service industry, human resources, spirituality and much more. (A doctor learning coaching skills in order to coach his patients rather than just give out information said, “For years I have been gathering knowledge and now I am gathering insight”)

3. Developing and Improving Technology Skills – Learn the basics of how to operate a computer, then learn how to use the internet to your best advantage. Pick a topic that interests YOU and see what you can find about that topic on the net. If you are already accomplished in these skills, search for information on Business or Life Coaches.

4. Listening – Sharpen your listening skills and listen for people’s needs, desires, hopes and dreams. Listen to your own heart….what are your dreams? What is most important to you?

5. Stretching – Have a look at your limits and boundaries and stretch a little way out of your comfort zone.

6. Networking – Find or make opportunities to get together with other coaches. Ask questions about the type of coaching that other people are doing. Share what you are doing in your life/career and tell others what you want to do. They will have ideas for you.

7. Keeping an Open Mind – Be open to new ways of doing things. Be willing to challenge your own beliefs.

8. Trying Out New Tools – Try learning in new ways such as taking part in a teleclass or by some other form of distance ed.

9. Being Coached – Know your strengths and weaknesses. Choose a skill or an area of your life or career that you would like to improve and find a coach to work with you to reach your goal.

10. Keep the Vision – Aspire to great heights, dream big, keep the vision alive and believe in yourself as much you believe in your clients!
